Aston Villa are among the clubs interested in acquiring Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
On Sunday, Gallagher will habitually lead Chelsea with the captain’s armband to the Premier League home match against Bournemouth. It is expected that this will be Conor’s last game for his hometown club.
The fact is that Gallagher’s contract with Chelsea has only one year left, and negotiations between the parties on extending cooperation have not been crowned with anything. Additionally, the “blues” are being pushed to sell Conor by a difficult situation with compliance with the rules of financial fair play.
According to The Telegraph, Tottenham, whose head coach Ange Postecoglou is a big fan of the 24-year-old Englishman, is still at the head of the queue lined up behind Gallagher.
However, Villa also has views on Gallagher, and the Birmingham club has two big trump cards in the fight for Conor.
Firstly, Villa are ready to offer Gallagher the opportunity to play in the Champions League next season. Secondly, Chelsea have a counter interest in 20-year-old Villanova striker John Duran, who could be a bargaining chip in a deal for Conor.
Last summer, Chelsea asked for 50 million pounds for Gallagher. And although Conor’s contract expires next year, the midfielder’s excellent performance this season is an excuse for the Blues not to cut the price too much.
