Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring in the 5th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to fire home from close range. Julian Alvarez doubled the lead in the 29th minute, coolly slotting the ball past Fraser Forster after a clever pass from Kevin De Bruyne. Tottenham’s misery was compounded just before halftime when Rodri’s thunderbolt from outside the area crashed into the net. The Spaniard’s venomous strike left Forster with no chance. With the game all but over, Erling Haaland added further gloss to the scoreline in the 65th minute. The Norwegian striker surged through the Tottenham defense and unleashed a powerful drive into the bottom corner. Tottenham offered little threat throughout the match. Antonio Conte’s side looked disjointed and out of ideas, failing to create any meaningful chances against a City team that controlled possession and dictated the tempo. The result marked Manchester City’s ninth consecutive win in all competitions and extended their unbeaten run to 13 matches. It also ended Tottenham’s hopes of winning their first major trophy since 2008. Pep Guardiola’s team will now face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup semifinals. The first leg will be played at Old Trafford on January 11, with the second leg at the Etihad Stadium on January 25.
