The Minister of Health witnesses the accreditation of the first batch of mainland hospitals under the Chinese International Hospital Accreditation Standards (2021 version)
On January 19, 2023, the “Accreditation Ceremony for the First Batch of Mainland Hospitals under the Chinese International Hospital Accreditation Standards (2021 Version)” was held in Beijing. Ma Xiaowei, Minister of the National Health Commission and Director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Ma Xiaowei pointed out that the Chinese International Hospital Accreditation Standards (2021 version) is the first international hospital accreditation standard independently developed by China. It is an important measure to improve the quality of medical services and promote the internationalization of Chinese hospitals. The accreditation of the first batch of mainland hospitals under the new standards is a milestone in the development of China’s hospital accreditation work. The first batch of 10 mainland hospitals that have passed the accreditation of the Chinese International Hospital Accreditation Standards (2021 version) are: * Peking Union Medical College Hospital * Shanghai Huashan Hospital * The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University * The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University * The General Hospital of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army * Beijing Tiantan Hospital * Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital * Shandong Qilu Hospital * Chongqing University Cancer Hospital * The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University The Chinese International Hospital Accreditation Standards (2021 version) was jointly developed by the National Health Commission and the Chinese Hospital Association. It is based on the “Chinese Hospital Accreditation Standards (2020 version)” and incorporates international advanced concepts and practices. The new standards have a total of 16 chapters and 1,064 evaluation items, covering all aspects of hospital management and medical services. The accreditation of the first batch of mainland hospitals under the new standards marks a new stage in the development of China’s hospital accreditation work. It will help to improve the quality of medical services in mainland China, promote the internationalization of Chinese hospitals, and contribute to the construction of a healthy China.

On August 19, the National Health Commission held a conference in Beijing to announce the accreditation results of the first batch of mainland hospitals under the Chinese International Hospital Accreditation Standards (2021 version). 30 hospitals from 23 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) were accredited, including Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Changhai Hospital, Zhongshan Hospital, and West China Hospital. The Chinese International Hospital Accreditation Standards (2021 version) were jointly developed by the National Health Commission, the Chinese Hospital Association, and the International Hospital Federation. The standards are based on the latest international hospital accreditation standards and the actual situation of Chinese hospitals, and are composed of 16 chapters and 420 evaluation items. The standards cover all aspects of hospital management, including patient safety, quality of care, infection control, risk management, and patient satisfaction. The accreditation of the first batch of mainland hospitals under the Chinese International Hospital Accreditation Standards (2021 version) marks an important milestone in the development of Chinese hospitals.
