The Monadnock Huskies’ historic season came to an end on Wednesday night in the Division IV semi-finals, as they fell to the Campbell Cougars 66-64 in a thrilling contest. Senior guard Jordan Dean led the Huskies with 23 points, including a clutch three-pointer with just seconds remaining that nearly tied the game. However, Campbell forward Jake Wright converted a layup in the final seconds to secure the victory for the Cougars. Monadnock came out strong in the first half, taking a 31-24 lead into the break. Dean scored 12 points in the first half, including a pair of three-pointers. Campbell rallied in the second half, and the game was tied 64-64 with just over a minute remaining. Dean then hit a three-pointer to give Monadnock the lead, but Wright responded with the game-winning layup. Despite the heartbreaking loss, Monadnock’s season was one of their most successful in recent memory. The Huskies finished the regular season with an 18-2 record and earned the No. 2 seed in the Division IV tournament. Dean was a key contributor to the Huskies’ success this season. The senior guard averaged over 20 points per game and was named to the All-State Second Team. “Jordan is a special player,” said Monadnock head coach Sean Murphy. “He’s a leader on and off the court, and he’s always willing to put in the work. He had a great season, and I’m proud of everything he’s accomplished.” Dean said he was disappointed with the outcome, but he was proud of the team’s effort. “We gave it our all tonight,” said Dean. “Campbell is a great team, and they made some big plays down the stretch. I’m proud of my teammates for fighting until the end.” Monadnock will graduate several key players from this year’s team, including Dean and fellow seniors Seth Rolland and Avery Pierce. However, Murphy is confident that the Huskies will be competitive again next season. “We have a lot of young talent coming up,” said Murphy. “We’re excited about the future.”
