Woman Threatens Taxi Driver in Victoria with Machete, Steals Taxi

– A woman in Victoria is facing charges after she allegedly threatened a taxi driver with a machete and stole the taxi on Monday night. According to the Victoria Police Department (VPD), the incident occurred at around 10:30 pm. A male taxi driver was parked in the 1000-block of Johnson Street when a woman approached the vehicle. The woman allegedly threatened the driver with a machete and demanded that he get out of the car. The driver complied, and the woman drove away in the taxi. The taxi was later spotted by police driving erratically in the downtown area. Officers attempted to pull the taxi over, but the driver failed to stop. A short pursuit ensued, but the taxi was eventually stopped by police on Quadra Street. The woman was taken into custody without incident. The taxi driver was not injured in the incident. The woman has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, flight from police, and dangerous driving. She is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on February 22, 2023, at approximately 11:30 PM. The taxi driver was parked in the 1000-block of Blanshard Street when a woman entered the vehicle and asked to be taken to Oak Bay. During the ride, the woman allegedly pulled out a machete and threatened the driver. She then ordered him to pull over and get out of the taxi. The driver complied and the woman fled the scene in the taxi. Police were called to the scene and located the taxi a short time later. The woman was arrested and taken into custody. The suspect has been identified as a 35-year-old Victoria woman. She has been charged with robbery, uttering threats, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The victim, a 50-year-old man, was not injured in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
