– The Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is now accepting applications for access permits to hunt deer within the Marias River Wildlife Management Area (WMA). The Marias River WMA is located in northwest Montana, approximately 50 miles north of Choteau. The WMA encompasses over 25,000 acres of prime deer habitat along the Marias River. The access permit system is designed to provide hunters with an opportunity to access the WMA while minimizing disturbance to wildlife and other WMA users. Permits are available for the following deer hunting seasons: * Archery: September 1-15, 2023 * Rifle: October 15-27, 2023 Hunters can apply for a permit online at: [FWP Online Permit System](https://fwp.mt.gov/hunt/licenses/online) The deadline to apply for a permit is July 31, 2023. Successful applicants will be selected through a random drawing. The drawing will be held in August, and winners will be notified by mail. Permits are non-transferable and are valid only for the specific hunter and season listed on the permit. Hunters with a permit will be allowed to access the WMA from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset during the designated hunting season. All hunters must follow the hunting regulations for the WMA, including: * Only one deer may be harvested per permit. * Only antlerless deer may be harvested. * Hunters must wear hunter orange clothing while hunting. * Hunters must check in and out of the WMA each day they hunt. – Hunters can now sign up for access permits to hunt deer in the Marias River Wildlife Management Area (WMA). The WMA is located along the Marias River, south of Loma and north of Chester. It offers excellent hunting opportunities for white-tailed deer, mule deer, and elk. Access permits are required to hunt in the WMA during the general deer season, which runs from Oct. 15-Nov. 27. Permits are limited to 200 per day and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
