Excerpt:
“It’s 7:00 in the morning, and the sun is just starting to peek over the horizon as I arrive at CHEO, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. I’m a nurse here, and I’m about to start my day. My first patient is a young boy named Ethan. He’s here for a checkup after his recent surgery. I check his vitals, make sure his incision is healing properly, and give him some pain medication. After Ethan, I have several other patients to see. I help a young girl with her asthma, give a newborn baby his first bath, and change the dressing on a child with a wound. In between patients, I find time to grab a quick bite to eat and catch up with my colleagues. We all work long hours, but we’re always there for each other. We know that we’re making a difference in the lives of our patients, and that’s what makes it all worthwhile. At the end of the day, I’m exhausted, but I’m also filled with a sense of accomplishment. I know that I’ve made a difference in the lives of these children, and that’s what makes it all worth it.”
