– A D.C. man has been charged with murder after a carjacking suspect he was driving with allegedly shot and killed a passenger during a chase with police in Southeast D.C. early Wednesday morning. D.C. police said officers responded to the 700 block of Alabama Avenue SE for a report of a carjacking at about 1:30 a.m., and responding officers encountered the stolen vehicle near Suitland Parkway. Police said they tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled and a pursuit began. During the chase, police said a passenger inside the stolen car fired shots at officers. Police did not return fire. Authorities said the chase ended on I-295 near Suitland Road when the stolen vehicle crashed. Police arrested the driver of the stolen vehicle, identified as 21-year-old DeAndre Green of Southeast D.C., and took two other passengers into custody. One of the passengers, identified as 23-year-old Jabril Cotton of Southeast D.C., was found unconscious and unresponsive in the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head, according to police. Cotton was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The carjacking suspect, identified as 18-year-old Cornell Henderson of Southeast D.C., was arrested and charged with felony murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. The passenger who was not shot was charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and possession of a controlled substance. Green was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

A carjacking suspect in Washington, D.C. has been charged with murder after a passenger in the stolen vehicle died during a police pursuit. According to police, 30-year-old Jequavion Stevenson allegedly carjacked a woman at gunpoint in the 2300 block of Savannah Street SE on Sunday night. The victim escaped uninjured. Stevenson then allegedly fled in the stolen vehicle with two passengers inside. Officers pursued the vehicle until it crashed into a parked car in the 1100 block of 44th Street NE. One of the passengers, 24-year-old Anthony Arrington, sustained critical injuries and later died at a local hospital. The other passenger, a 25-year-old man, was uninjured. Stevenson was taken into custody and initially charged with carjacking. However, after Arrington’s death, the murder charge was added. Stevenson is scheduled to appear in court on March 1 for a preliminary hearing.
