Defending champions England begin their Women’s Euro 2022 campaign against old rivals Scotland at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium tonight. The Lionesses are targeting a second consecutive continental crown and are among the favourites to lift the trophy on home soil. Sarina Wiegman’s side is unbeaten in 14 matches since she took charge in September 2021, winning 12 and drawing two. They have also scored 80 goals and conceded just four during that run, which includes a 4-0 victory over the Scots in a friendly in February. Scotland, ranked 23rd in the world, will be looking to cause an upset and reach the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time. Shelley Kerr’s side has lost just once in their last 11 matches, a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the Arnold Clark Cup in February. They will be without key player Caroline Weir, who is ruled out of the tournament with an ankle injury. The match is a sell-out and is expected to be a close contest. England will be confident of victory, but Scotland will be determined to make their mark on the tournament.
Kick-off is at 8pm BST.
