Jurgen Klopp has called on Liverpool fans to support his replacement as head coach of the Reds.
With a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton on Sunday, Klopp ended his career at Liverpool, which he coached for almost nine years.
After the final match of the season, Klopp turned to the Anfield stands and expressed the hope that Arne Slot, who takes his place, will receive the same support as Jurgen himself had.
“Greet the new coach as you greeted me. You’ve been completely on my side since day one. You continued to believe and spurred the team on. Change is for the better.”
“No one is telling you to stop believing. This club is probably in its best position ever.”
“We decide for ourselves whether to worry or admire. We decide for ourselves whether to believe us. We decide for ourselves whether to trust us or not, and from today on, I am one of you, and I continue to believe in you.”
“It was a wonderful atmosphere —thanks for ignoring my request not to sing my name!”
“If you sing it next year, it will be fun! It doesn’t feel like the end. It feels like a start. Today I saw a football team that is full of desire to play. This is part of the development. This is what you need.”
“Such attention can be uncomfortable, but at the same time I realized some things. People have told me that I turned them from doubters into believers — but that’s not true. We have this stadium, this training base and you are the superpower of world football!”
“Now I am one of you. I love you immensely. I will never be alone again — thank you for that,” Klopp was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
