Sky Sports expert Jamie Carragher has suggested that Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta will have to wait for Josep Guardiola to leave Manchester City in order to win the Premier League.
Guardiola’s City could clinch a fourth consecutive Premier League title on Sunday, which would be a unique achievement.
According to Carragher, Arteta is doing everything right, and if Guardiola leaves City in the future, it will open the door to Arsenal’s championship.
“I think Mikel Arteta is absolutely doing a great job. People will say that he spent a lot of money. And so it is. But the main indicator is the ratio of the final position in the league to the salary list. If you look at the payroll of Manchester City and Liverpool, which is not far behind them, then there is a huge gap in comparison with Arsenal.
“And more often than not, this is what decides the fate of the Premier League title. So it could be a situation where Arsenal have to wait for Pep Guardiola to leave.”
“If Mikel Arteta does not win anything next year, then this will be the fourth season without trophies. But for me, he is still a top-level coach. We know that we have one of the best in his person. Maybe if you just need to wait for Pep to leave and not do anything stupid, don’t panic. This guy knows what he’s doing, we’ve seen that for the last couple of years. You just have to hold on,” Carragher was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
