Энтони Гордон Newcastle striker Anthony Gordon was outraged that he did not earn a penalty against Manchester United.

Gordon’s goal alone was not enough for Newcastle to avoid a 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Back in the first half of this match, when the score was 1-0, Gordon fell into someone else’s penalty area, but neither referee Robert Jones nor VAR referee Jarred Gillett chose not to interfere.

In Gordon’s opinion, it was a clean penalty. Anthony cites as his argument the fact that Sofyan Amrabat, who stepped on him from behind, tore his gaiter.

“My ankle really hurts. I’m not sure how well my ankle will be.”

“I’ve seen the replays and it’s a clean penalty. The referee in the field could have made a mistake, but I don’t understand what the point of VAR is then. It exists to correct mistakes.”

“Amrabat stepped on my achilles and then pushed me in the back. Casemiro took the ball, but before that there were two fouls. I just don’t see the point in VAR.”

“I understood everything right away and therefore did not appeal to the referee — everything happened quickly and he might make a mistake. I decided to wait for the VAR check. You saw me telling my teammates that it was a clean penalty.”

“But we had to continue the game, even though I didn’t have any leg warmers left. How is this possible?” Gordon told Sky Sports.
