Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has said he will stay at Old Trafford if the club wants him to.
Over the past week, there have been persistent rumors about the possible departure of Fernandes from United next summer. Bruno was wooed to Bayern Munich, Inter, as well as Saudi Arabia.
On Wednesday evening, Fernandes returned to the football field after injury and helped the Red Devils to a 3-2 victory over Newcastle, and also touched on the topic of his future.
“I will be here as long as the club wants to possess me. The club wants me to be a part of its future, and I feel it. I don’t want to be a player that the club doesn’t want to own. If for some reason they don’t want to possess me, I will leave, but if they want, I will stay,” Fernandes told Sky Sports.
United head coach Eric Ten Hag also spoke about the future of the 29-year-old Portuguese.
“The club wants to keep Bruno, absolutely. I think this is indisputable. I need to watch his interview, but as far as I know, he loves Manchester United. He loves Manchester United fans and he loves playing for Manchester United. That’s all I know.”
“He always tries his best. He sets an example and plays, even with injuries. He loves football, but he wants to win.”
“I am very pleased with his performance throughout the season. It’s not easy for him when so many players around him are injured, and every time he has to drag the team,” Ten Hag said.
