Chelsea won the Premier League for the fourth time in a row, beating Brighton 1-2 on the road.
There were two changes at the start of the “seagulls”. Tarik Lampty and Joao Pedro appeared instead of Yoel Veltman and Danny Welbeck.
Tiago Silva moved to the bench for the Blues, allowing Little Gusto to come out from the first minutes.
The start of the match was left to the guests, who had much more possession of the ball and put pressure on other people’s goal. The hosts only snapped at Simon Adingr’s inaccurate shot.
In the 16th minute Facundo Buonanotte knocked down Marc Cucurella in his penalty area. Initially, referee Michael Salisbury pointed to the 11-meter mark, but after going to the monitor at the edge, he realized his mistake and canceled the penalty.
Chelsea continued to play number one and opened the scoring in the 34th minute. Cucurella scored from the left flank, and Cole Palmer shot a header from the near corner of the goalkeeper’s square — 0:1.
At the end of the half, the ball once again went into the Brighton goal, but Nicholas Jackson’s goal was canceled due to a foul on Lampty. Just before leaving for the break, the Seagulls snapped at Pedro with a headbutt, but George Petrovich saved the Blues.
Shortly after the start of the second half, Pascal Gross missed a sure opportunity to equalize the score, missing the goal from close range.
But Chelsea took their chance. Gusto burst into the penalty area from the right flank and rolled into the center of the court, from where Christopher Nkunku, who came on as a substitute, struck a touch — 0:2.
In the rest of the match, the hosts did not give up trying to soak the score, but only managed to provoke Rhys James, who came on as a substitute, to be removed, and hit Petrovich’s goal post. Only when the compensated time was running out, Danny Welbeck closed Pedro’s shot to the near post — 1:2.
Chelsea definitely improved at the end of the season. The Blues outperformed their opponent in the game and fully deserved the three points. Brighton were frankly bad, especially considering the domestic nature of the match.
