Sky Sports expert Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega brought his team the Premier League title with his save against Tottenham.
Having appeared as a substitute in place of the injured Ederson in the second half, in the 86th minute, when the score was 0:1, Ortega did not allow Tottenham captain Song Hyun-min to implement a one-on-one exit.
Carragher believes that this 0-2 victory opens up a direct path for City to the title. Jamie compares Ortega’s save to Vincent Kompany’s memorable goal for the Citizens against Leicester at the end of the 2018/19 season.
“If we talk about the created moments, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen anyone cause Manchester City as many problems as Tottenham did.
“Tonight Ortega single-handedly won the Premier League title race for them. Of course, it was a long season, during which a lot of things happened, but if not for his save at 0:1, Arsenal would have won the league. That’s how close it was.”
“As a Liverpool fan, I remember that Vincent Kompany kick against Leicester. Now such a moment has happened for Arsenal fans.
“Arsenal fans will remember this moment for the next five, 10 years. Even if they win the title in the next five years — and they have a chance of doing so because they have a great team with a great coach — this moment will haunt them,” Carragher was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
