Having missed twice in the end from John Duran, Liverpool remained without a victory in the away match with Aston Villa — 3:3.
Regarding the 1-0 defeat at Brighton, Emiliano Martinez and Yuri Thielemans returned to the starting lineup of Villanova, replacing Robin Olsen and Yuri Thielemans.
The Reds coach Jurgen Klopp limited himself to a single reshuffle compared to the 4-2 victory over Tottenham. It was Joe Gomez who appeared instead of Andy Robertson on the left flank of the defense.
Only one minute has passed since the start of the match, as the score was opened. After playing into the wall with a partner, Harvey Elliott executed a feed from the right edge of the penalty area, and the ball ricocheted off Pau Torres’ chest and flew into the goal, where Martinez did not expect such treachery from his defender — 0:1.
The goal gave the guests confidence, while the hosts could not do anything ahead. In the 11th minute, Luis Diaz almost hit Martinez’s goal, and Cody Gakpo, who was playing on the finishing line, hit the post, but this double moment was canceled out due to offside.
And in the 12th minute, Villa suddenly responded. Ollie Watkins advanced along the left edge of the penalty area to the front line, after which he rolled back under the kick of Thielemans — 1:1.
Now the hosts were inspired and began to actively attack, but in the 23rd minute the guests took the lead again. Diaz took the ball in the penalty area, passed to Gomez, and he shot towards the goal to Gakpo, who only had to substitute his foot — 1:2.
In the rest of the match, Villa looked preferable, which had two right moments, but Diego Carlos missed the goal from one and a half meters after a partner shot, and Moussa Diaby could not realize a one-on-one exit, also punching past.
But the second half began with Liverpool’s third goal. It was Jarrell Kuansa who shot a header with a rebound from the post after Elliott’s free kick — 1:3.
In the 52nd minute, Ollie Watkins hit Alisson’s goal from the center of the penalty area, but during the combination Leon Bailey was offside.
In the 59th minute, the Reds already brought the ball into Martinez’s goal, but even here an offside was recorded.
Soon the game calmed down, although there were still moments here and there.
Such a game relaxed Liverpool, who were punished for it in the 85th minute. John Duran, who came on as a substitute, hit Alisson’s goal with a low shot from the approaches to the penalty area — 2:3.
Immediately, the Reds snapped back with an uncounted goal by substitute Darwin Nunez, and then conceded again. Duran acted as a wall, ricocheting the ball into the goal after passing Diaby — 3:3.
In the end, Villanova had one real opportunity to snatch victory, but Alisson did not allow Diaby to score.
The teams played a very interesting match, scoring against each other with ease. It seemed that Liverpool could have brought it to a comfortable victory, but relaxed too early.
