Former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer has revealed that Manchester United players are awaiting the arrival of England head coach Gareth Southgate in place of Eric Ten Haga.
The 0-1 home defeat by Arsenal on Sunday only darkened the clouds over Ten Hag, whose team is only eighth in the Premier League, risking not getting into European competitions next season.
According to McAteer, even before the match against Arsenal, he spoke with one of the United players, and the mood in the dressing room is such that Ten Haga’s dismissal looks imminent.
“He plays for Manchester United, and I had a conversation with him on Friday. I literally live nearby, and I just came across him.”
“We talked, he’s a great guy, and I asked him about the end of the season and about his thoughts. He didn’t give me the slightest hint that their coach would stay.”
“Actually, we discussed various names and talked about who we think is a good fit for them.”
“How did the player react to Tuchel’s name? I smiled, but that’s not the right name. Mourinho? By. Southgate? Yes, that’s the name.”
“Football players understand when their coach is on the verge of losing his job. Of course, they know this, and I got the impression that everything has been resolved,” Makatir said.
