The best scorer in the history of Manchester United, Wayne Rooney, believes that some of the injured Red Devils players could have played against Arsenal on Sunday.
United approached the Premier League home match against Arsenal without a huge number of players, including Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Tyrell Malasia, Luke Shaw, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
However, after the 0-1 defeat, Rooney expressed the theory that some of these players were just saving themselves for the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25 or Euro 2024.
“If we look at the injuries they’ve sustained, then some of these players can play, 100 percent.”
“When you have the European Championship and the FA Cup final ahead of you, it’s easier for you to take care of yourself, because they’re having a hard time right now. It’s easier for the players to stay out of the game for a while, then return to the finals and be ready for the European Championship.”
“I’ve seen it over the years in football, and I just think that these ‘injured’ players can’t get any approval at the moment. The coach has to take the rap for everything,” Rooney said on Sky Sports.
