Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta believes that his team’s victory over Manchester United opened the “box of dreams”.
With a 0-1 victory over United on Sunday, Arsenal ensured that the fate of the Premier League title would only be decided in the final round.
And although the initiative in the championship race still belongs to Manchester City, Arteta is glad that his team can dream of the title to the last.
“Of course, I am very, very happy. We have not had the right to make mistakes since January, we had to win, win and win, and nothing has been decided yet.”
“Today we had to play in a really special place, where historically you can’t be too optimistic, but we found a way to win, and that says a lot about how much the team wants to win the title.”
“You know what the consequences of a draw would be. Before the match, I felt that the team was in very good condition. We started the match well, we scored a goal, but I think that goal influenced us.”
“We started playing too safe. I don’t like it, and we needed to change that. And when we wanted to change that, we had difficulties. If you can’t do it, you have to fight in an outstanding way and do the right thing defensively. I think we were excellent at that element again.”
“My experience in this league over the last 20 years says that any team can beat any one. It’s phenomenal how much honesty and respect everyone puts into the match.”
“We know that we still need to get a result in the last match, but today we really wanted to knock on that door and open the box of dreams to experience the final day of the season with our people with the opportunity to win the Premier League.”
“It’s something that we have to go through together, and I’m happy that we’re going to do it with the players and the staff. We have 27 wins in the Premier League, and this is a record for this football club for 130 years. This is not progress, this is history,” Arteta is quoted as saying by The Independent.
