Leandro Trossard’s goal secured Arsenal a 0-1 victory away to Manchester United and ensured that the intrigue in the Premier League title race would continue until the last day of the season.
For the first time this Premier League season, Amad Diallo got a place in the starting line-up of the Red Devils. Sofyan Amrabat and the recovered Scott McTominay also got their chance. Bruno Fernandes did not manage to recover in time and was not included in the application.
The Gunners’ starting line-up remained the same compared to the 3-0 win over Bournemouth.
At the beginning of the match, the hosts were locked in their own half of the field, but they got the first real opportunity to open the account. In the fifth minute, William Saliba unsuccessfully passed to Thomas Partey, and Heilund, who intercepted the ball, got the opportunity to shoot from the approaches to the penalty area, but Rasmus slipped and missed the goal.
With this moment, United shot down Arsenal’s attacking rush, further acting compactly and in a disciplined manner.
The lack of clear chances did not prevent the Gunners from opening the scoring in the 20th minute. Kai Havertz, thrown on the right flank, freely entered the penalty area and shot into the goalkeeper’s room, where Leandro Trossard put his foot up — 0:1.
The Devils were caught off guard by the missed goal, but gradually they managed to stabilize the situation. Towards the end of the first half, the hosts played the game at all, but without much acuity.
There were almost no dangerous moments in the second half — United scored their second goal of the match only in the 72nd minute. Arsenal defended extremely reliably.
In the 79th minute, everything could have ended for the Devils. Gabriel Martinelli entered the penalty area from the left flank, moved closer to the center and shot, but Andre Onana parried the ball with one hand.
In the 82nd minute, Onana saved the hosts twice more, preventing Willie Kambwala’s own goal and parried Declan Rice’s twisted shot from distance. But United had no chance to get away from defeat in the end.
Arsenal opened the account quickly enough and then played on hold. At the end of the match, the Gunners clearly added — they failed to score the second goal, but their opponent was too busy defending to think about the final assault.
