Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou has said that Spurs are not a Champions League club.
Tottenham have lost all four of their last matches in the Premier League and now have only a mathematical chance of pushing Aston Villa out of fourth place.
But even if Tottenham manage to perform a miracle at the finish, Postecoglou is convinced that Spurs do not match the level of the elite European tournament.
“If you finish fourth and get into the Champions League, that doesn’t make you a Champions League club, in my opinion. It will just give you the opportunity to perform there. In my opinion, it takes more than finishing fourth one year to be a Champions League club and match that level.”
“Do I believe that right now we are a Champions League club? No, we are not. That’s my belief.”
“We still have a lot of work to do. It doesn’t mean that I don’t want to take us to the Champions League. This is self-evident, given what I want to create here. If we finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League, it won’t change my view of what we need to do in the summer. I clearly understand this,” Postecoglou is quoted as saying by The Telegraph.
