Former Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward is returning to work with the Merseyside club, having been appointed technical director of Fenway Sports Group.
It was only in March that FSG, which owns Liverpool, announced the appointment of Michael Edwards as executive president of football at the company.
According to The Athletic, Edwards will now work with Ward again, who was his deputy when Michael worked as Liverpool’s sporting director.
When Edwards left Liverpool in the summer of 2022, it was Ward who took his place, but lasted only one season as the sporting director of the Reds.
The fact that Edwards and Ward were appointed not at Liverpool, but at FSG, indicates the intention of the American owners of the Reds to create and develop a system of satellite clubs.
In addition to Ward, FSG also managed to get the technical director of Benfica Pedro Marques, who will become Director of Football Development. Both specialists will start work on June 1.
