Sky Sports expert Jamie Carragher called striker Kai Havertz the main reason why Arsenal are at the top of the Premier League.
In his first 12 matches after moving from Chelsea for 65 million pounds, Havertz scored only one goal and provided one assist.
However, after the New Year, the 24-year-old German has significantly improved and established himself as Arsenal’s main striker. To date, Kai has scored 12 goals and provided six assists in the Premier League for the Gunners.
Carragher does not see Havertz’s talent as an outstanding scorer, but considers Kai an extremely useful player, thanks to whom Arsenal are so strong defensively.
“I think right now Arsenal are not inferior to anyone in Europe and the world in terms of defensive play, and other teams have a hard time against them.”
“They definitely improved in 2024 — probably even more than in the first half of the season, and the main reason or one of the main reasons that helped this is Kai Havertz.”
“At the beginning of the season, Havertz was slightly mocked. When he came, we didn’t quite understand where he belonged.”
“To be honest, I was never quite sure about his position. But now he has finally become a central striker. I’m not saying he’s going to be an incredible scorer, because he won’t be.”
“But he is a central striker who helps Arsenal do what they are doing right now. That’s why they are so strong defensively, and that’s what gives them a great chance of winning the Premier League.”
“I’ve been thinking about the great central strikers in the Premier League who weren’t great scorers, and Firmino from Liverpool comes to mind. He did such a job without the ball. It’s the same with Havertz, who will score goals, but it won’t be an avalanche of goals,” Carragher was quoted as saying by Football.London.
