Manchester City have agreed to acquire 14-year-old Philadelphia Union midfielder Kavan Sullivan.
On Thursday, Sullivan signed the largest homegrown player contract in MLS history, a contract that allows North American league clubs to sign players from their academy to an adult team.
In addition, at the age of 14 years and 224 days, Sullivan became the fifth youngest acquisition in MLS history.
The peculiarity of Sullivan’s contract with Philadelphia Union is that Cavan agreed in advance on his transfer to City in 2028, when he turns 18.
Philadelphia Union athletic director Ernst Tanner, who, while working at Hoffenheim and Red Bull, revealed players like Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, David Alaba and Dominic Soboslai, believes that Sullivan has the potential to become a star of City in the future.
“He is one of the biggest talents on the planet… Kavan is one of the top 3 young talents that I have seen in my 30-year career. If we compare, I would say that he reminds me of Dominic Soboslai,” the Daily Mirror quotes Tanner.
