Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes that the trip to Fulham is the only one of the three matches in which Manchester City can stumble at the end of the Premier League season.
After leaving for Fulham next Saturday, City will still have to play against Tottenham and West Ham, but it is this duel with the cottagers that Merson sees as the only one in which the “citizens” may have real difficulties.
However, Paul still does not expect a misfire from City, and offers his former club Arsenal to blame for the 0-2 defeat by Aston Villa last month.
“I have said before that Fulham is the only match in which Manchester City can have problems. What chances can Tottenham have? What chance can West Ham have? Just this match.”
Fulham went to Brentford last week and played 0-0. But at the moment when Manchester City opens the scoring, it is impossible to imagine that Fulham will score two or three. I hope they will provide their opponent with a difficult match, but even when Arsenal lost to Aston Villa, I said that Arsenal had no chance.”
“To be honest, Arsenal have done a wonderful job staying in the race. They didn’t do anything wrong, except for one match against a team that is a good team and that can’t win right now! That’s the difference — when you play for big clubs, everyone wants to beat you.”
“Since then, Villa have stood up against Chelsea, been turned over by Olympiacos and then lost to Brighton.
Fulham is their last chance. If Manchester City wins this match, it will be over,” Merson told Sky Sports.
