Getafe president Angel Torres has announced that striker Mason Greenwood will not play for Manchester United next season.
Greenwood has been playing for Getafe this season on loan from United, scoring 10 goals in 29 matches. Earlier, the press reported that the Red Devils have not yet made a decision about Mason, whose return to his hometown club cannot be ruled out.
However, after a visit to Albion, Torres’ colleagues learned that United were going to sell Greenwood or, at the very least, send the 22-year-old Englishman back to Getafe.
“I think if it depended on the guy, his parents and Getafe, he would have stayed for another year. Last week, our sports director went to England to watch a number of matches and meet with Manchester City, and we were told that they wanted to sell him if a good offer came, because he would not return there.”
“We need to wait until the end of June. The player and his family are very comfortable here, they are very happy and satisfied with our fans. When he came here, he hadn’t played for 16 months. He regained his form, scoring eight league goals and two in the Spanish Cup. Our people and the coach are very happy with him. I think he will stay with us for another season or until January at least. He is a good football player,” Torres was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.
