Furious O’Neill Misses City Clash After VAR Disallows Late Equalizer

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Gary O’Neill faces a one-match suspension and an £8,000 fine for his outburst towards referees following their 1-2 defeat to West Ham on April 6th.

O’Neill’s anger stemmed from the disallowed goal by Max Kilman in the dying seconds of the match. Referee Tony Harrington initially ruled it out, and despite VAR official Timo Robinson recommending a review, the decision stood. Replays showed Tavada Chireva impeding West Ham’s Lukasz Fabianski, but O’Neill argued that Chireva’s offside position wasn’t interfering with play.

Fuming over the call, O’Neill reportedly confronted Harrington in the referee’s locker room, where he admitted to using “inappropriate language” according to the FA. This resulted in his one-match ban and hefty fine.

O’Neill’s absence will be a significant blow for Wolves as they travel to Manchester City this Saturday.
