Crystal Palace beat Manchester United 4-0 in a dominant manner.
Compared to the 1-1 draw against Fulham, Eberechi Eze returned to the Eagles starting line-up, replacing Jordan Ayew.
The Red Devils missed Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes due to injuries, replaced by Johnny Evans and Mason Mount.
The owners of Selhurst Park had only one moment to open the account. It happened in the 12th minute, when Michael Olise got the ball out of the outfield, got to the penalty area freely and, barely entering the court, hit the bottom corner of the goal — 1-0.
10 minutes later, Olise almost scored a double, but Michael’s shot from outside the penalty area hit his teammate Jean-Philippe Matet.
United did not show anything ahead — until the 27th minute, when Rasmus Heilund pushed Dean Henderson away and helped the ball into the goal, but the goal was not counted due to an attack on the goalkeeper.
The Devils had no other chances in the first half, but the Eagles continued to attack and scored the second goal in the 40th minute. Mateta easily got away from Evans, burst into the penalty area on the left edge and hit the near corner of Andre Onan’s goal — 2-0.
At the beginning of the second half, the visitors shot at Henderson’s goal for the first time in the match, and in the 53rd minute Casemiro even sent the ball into the net, but his goal was canceled due to offside.
United stepped up after the break, but conceded the third goal in the 58th minute. Adam Wharton threw the ball into the penalty area, and Diogo Dalot, trying to stop Joakim Andersen, made an excellent pass to the goalkeeper for Tyreek Mitchell — 3-0.
In the 66th minute, Casemiro absurdly lost the ball at the front line, and Daniel Munoz immediately rolled back under Olisa’s kick – 4-0.
In the rest of the match, the Devils had virtually no opportunities for a prestige goal, but they could have missed the fifth several times. Already in compensated time, the ball hit the post after a shot by Odsonne Edouard.
United played a terrible match, and it is impossible to explain such a bad game with injuries alone.
