Brentford coach Thomas Frank is confident that a goal drought will not prevent striker Ivan Tawney from getting into the England squad for Euro 2024.
The day before, 28-year-old Tawney once again failed to distinguish himself, and Brentford had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Fulham.
Thus, Toney has not scored for the Bees for 10 matches in a row — since the 1-4 victory over Liverpool on February 17. This is the worst series for Ivan at club level since his performances for Peterborough in 2019.
Despite this fatal bad luck, Frank expects Toney to be among the 26 players that England head coach Gareth Southgate will be able to take with him to Euro 2024.
“No, I’m not worried. I’m not Gareth Southgate. If he has a decline in form, I don’t think it means anything. The most important thing is your physical condition to go to the tournament.”
“I didn’t ask Ivan about it, but I guess he’s not too happy knowing Ivan. But even Ivan, one of our best players, needs the team to have a game,” Frank was quoted as saying by The Independent.
