Association of Football Journalists (Football Writers’ The Association has recognized Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden as the best player in the 2023/24 season.
In the vote, which was arranged by the FWA, Foden scored 42% of all votes, ahead of Declan Rice from Arsenal and his partner at City, Rhodri. Martin Edegore, Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer also entered the top 6.
Thus, the FWA Player of the Year award went to the City representative for the third time in the last four years — after Ruben Dias in 2021 and Erling Holand in 2023.
The prestigious award is a testament to the progress Foden has made this season. The 23-year-old Englishman has scored 24 goals and provided 10 assists in 50 games for City in all competitions.
“I am immensely proud to have received this award. Right now I’m focused on finishing the season as strong as possible and trying to help City win more trophies,” Foden was quoted as saying by the BBC.
