Mahrez’s hat-trick was particularly impressive, making him the first Manchester City player to score three goals in the League Cup since Sergio Aguero in 2014. Haaland’s brace extended his scoring streak in all competitions to six games. The victory was a resounding statement of intent from City as they look to retain their Carabao Cup crown. They have now won the competition six times in the past nine seasons, and will be confident of adding another trophy to their collection this year. For Wycombe, despite the heavy defeat, there were positives to take. They showed great spirit in the second half and managed to pull a goal back through Baker. They will now turn their attention back to League One, where they currently sit in 13th place.
