Miami, FL
– A man riding a scooter shot and injured a couple near a school in Miami on Friday evening. According to the Miami Police Department, the incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. outside of Shenandoah Middle School. Witnesses reported seeing a man on a black scooter pull up to a couple standing on the sidewalk. Without provocation, the man allegedly fired several shots at the couple, striking both of them. The victims, a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, were rushed to Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition. Police arrived at the scene and established a perimeter but were unable to locate the shooter. He is described as a Hispanic male in his late 20s or early 30s, wearing a dark hoodie, jeans, and a helmet. The scooter, which was found abandoned nearby, was reported stolen earlier that day. Miami-Dade County Public Schools said in a statement that the shooting did not occur on school property and that the school was not on lockdown. However, parents and students in the area were advised to use caution. “This was a senseless act of violence that could have had even more tragic consequences,” said Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina. “We are working diligently to identify and apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice.” Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect to call Miami Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
