The 23-year-old Mexican joins the Crew on a designated player contract. Lira has been a key player for Pumas, featuring in 105 games across all competitions since making his debut in 2019. Known for his physicality, versatility, and ability to play multiple positions in defense, the Mexican international has earned 13 caps for his country. “We are very excited to add Erik Lira to our team,” said Crew General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “He is a young, talented player who will add depth and quality to our defense. His experience in Liga MX and with the Mexican national team will be invaluable as we look to compete for trophies in 2023.” Lira expressed his excitement about joining the Crew, stating, “I am thrilled to be here. Lira is expected to make his debut for the Crew in their season opener against the Philadelphia Union on February 25th.
