National Civil Rights Museum Celebrates Juneteenth with Special Events and Programs
Memphis, TN – The National Civil Rights Museum is proud to celebrate Juneteenth, the annual commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, with a series of special events and programs throughout the month of June.
Juneteenth Festival
On Saturday, June 19, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the museum will host its annual Juneteenth Festival on the grounds of the historic Lorraine Motel, where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. The festival will feature live music, food vendors, children’s activities, and historical exhibits.
Panel Discussion: The Enduring Legacy of Juneteenth
On Wednesday, June 23, at 6:00 PM, the museum will host a panel discussion entitled “The Enduring Legacy of Juneteenth.” The panel will explore the historical significance of Juneteenth, its impact on American society, and its relevance in the current era.
Film Screening: “Selma to Montgomery”
On Saturday, June 26, at 2:00 PM, the museum will screen the documentary film “Selma to Montgomery.” The film chronicles the 1965 Selma-to-Montgomery marches, which played a pivotal role in the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Juneteenth 1865 Celebration
On June 19th at 11 AM CST, the Museum will host a virtual Juneteenth 1865 Celebration. This event will feature a keynote address from Dr. Cornel West, renowned author and activist, as well as performances by local artists and historians.
Virtual Panel Discussion: The Legacy of Juneteenth
On June 20th at 2 PM CST, the Museum will host a virtual panel discussion titled “The Legacy of Juneteenth.” This panel will explore the historical significance of Juneteenth, its impact on the Civil Rights Movement, and its modern-day relevance. Panelists include: * Dr. Keisha N. Blain, historian and author of “Set the World on Fire: Black Nationalist Women and the Global Struggle for Freedom” * Dr. William Barber II, president and senior lecturer of Repairers of the Breach * Dr. Tiffany Crutcher, mother of Terence Crutcher and founder of the Terence Crutcher Foundation
Virtual Children’s Activity: Juneteenth Crafts and Stories
On June 21st at 11 AM CST, the Museum will host a virtual children’s activity titled “Juneteenth Crafts and Stories.” This event will allow children to participate in hands-on crafts and hear stories about the history of Juneteenth.
Museum Admission
The National Civil Rights Museum will offer free admission to all visitors on June 19th and 20th in honor of Juneteenth. Visitors are encouraged to reserve their tickets in advance online.
