2 Killed When Truck Rammed into Roadside House in Balasore

In a tragic incident, two people were killed when a speeding truck rammed into a roadside house in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday evening. The deceased have been identified as Sasmita Swain (55) and her daughter Babita Swain (30), residents of Balibhata village under Balasore Rural police limits. According to reports, the truck, which was carrying sand, lost control and veered off the road near the roadside house. The impact of the collision caused the front portion of the house to collapse, trapping the mother-daughter duo inside. Local residents rushed to the spot and managed to pull the victims out from the debris. However, both Sasmita and Babita succumbed to their injuries while being rushed to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital. The truck driver, identified as Itish Das, has been arrested by the police. The vehicle has also been seized. Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Balasore Rural police station, Susanta Kumar Patra, said that a case of negligence and rash driving has been registered against the truck driver. The incident has sent shockwaves through the village. Local residents expressed their condolences to the bereaved family and demanded strict action against the responsible party. “We are still trying to understand how this terrible accident happened,” said a neighbor of the victims. “It is a huge loss for the family.” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the incident and announced financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He also directed the district administration to provide all necessary support to the affected family.
