Tennessee Free Fishing Day Saturday June 8

– The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) reminds anglers that Free Fishing Day will be held on Saturday, June 8. On this day, anyone may fish in Tennessee public waters without a fishing license. All other fishing regulations, such as size and creel limits, still apply. Free Fishing Day is a great opportunity for people to try fishing or to introduce someone to the sport. It is also a good time for experienced anglers to fish a new body of water or to try a new technique. “Free Fishing Day is a great way to get outside and enjoy Tennessee’s beautiful natural resources,” said TWRA Fisheries Chief Frank Fiss. “We hope that people will take advantage of this opportunity to try fishing or to share the sport with others.” TWRA will be hosting a number of Free Fishing Day events across the state. Fishing 101:

This free clinic is offered at various locations across the state and covers the basics of fishing, including how to choose the right gear, how to bait a hook, and how to cast a line. *

Reel Fun Fishing:

This program is designed for children ages 5-12 and teaches them the basics of fishing in a fun and engaging way. *

Youth Fishing Clinics:

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) will waive fishing license requirements for validly licensed Tennessee residents on Saturday, June 8, 2023, in celebration of National and Tennessee Free Fishing Day. On June 8, any Tennessee resident who is required to have a fishing license may fish the state’s public waters for free without a license. This includes fishing in lakes, rivers, streams, and ponds. “Free Fishing Day is a great opportunity for people to try fishing or to get back into the sport,” said TWRA Fisheries Chief Frank Fiss. “It’s a fun and affordable way to enjoy the outdoors and experience all that Tennessee has to offer.” In addition to waiving license requirements, TWRA will offer a variety of free fishing events across the state. These events will include fishing clinics, casting demonstrations, and giveaways.
