Марк Клаттенбург Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg has left his position as Nottingham Forest’s refereeing consultant.

Clattenburg was appointed to this position only in February, combining work at Forest with writing his column in the Daily Mail newspaper.

Clattenburg — like the rest of Forest — drew huge criticism after the Foresters’ 2-0 defeat to Everton on April 21. Then the club from the City Ground, through an official press release, accused VAR referee Stuart Attwell of bias, and Mark in his own column pointed to a “hat-trick of bloopers” from the referees.

Then Sky Sports expert Gary Neville suggested that Clattenburg resign immediately. Taking time to think, Mark decided to follow this recommendation.

Clattenburg explains his decision to leave Forest by saying that his work as a consultant caused “unintended friction” between the foresters and other participants in the process, turning from assistance into a hindrance.
